CS 7001 Professional and Research Ethics(1 hour) Exposure to workable ethical theories cyber ethics and professional ethics. Discussion of the basic principles of what it means to be a responsible and ethical research scientist. Review of the institutional, local, state, federal, and international policies governing the ethical and responsible conduct of scientific research; a brief introduction to the policies regulating the protection of human and animal subjects, internal review and the planning process; issues of confidentiality, intellectual ownership, reporting and managing conflicts; data management, collaborations, and authorship; and the research environment, trainee, supervisor, and independent researcher. The class includes lectures and student led discussions and presentations.
