Students from any discipline may minor in bioinformatics.

Required Courses (13 hours)

BIOL 1703 Introduction to Molecular and Cellular Biology
BIOL 1711 Introduction to Molecular and Cellular Biology Laboratory
CS 1043 Introduction to Programming and Problem-solving or
CS 2503 Scientific Programming
STAT 2013 Introduction to Statistics or
STAT 4813 Statistical Methods for Scientists and Engineers
BIOL 4643 Bioinformatics or
CS 4643 Bioinformatics

Elective Courses (6-7 hours)

Two courses selected from the following including at least one course from outside the student’s major:

BIOL 4193 Biotechnology and Genetic Engineering
CS 4073 Algorithmic Applications in Bioinformatics
CS 4093 Computational Biology
CS 4653 Medical Informatics
BIOL, CS, or MATH electives at the 3000 level or above selected with approval of advisor

Eligible students may also choose:

MATH 5613 Mathematical Biology

Total: 19-20 hours
