SOC 3163 Society and Economy


(3 hours)


Interconnections of the economy and broader society. What is an economy? Historical development of market economies and capitalism; the uses of social resources; variations in advanced market economies; socioeconomic effects (on wealth, inequality, poverty, security, social integration); possible alternatives to current models. Prerequisites: an introductory course in one of the social sciences or permission of instructor.
