Learning Outcomes
Students earning a Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering programs will be able to:
- identify, formulate, and solve complex engineering problems by applying principles of engineering, science, and mathematics
- apply engineering design to produce solutions that meet specified needs with consideration of public health, safety, and welfare, as well as global, cultural, social, environmental, and economic factors
- communicate effectively with a range of [technical/management/non-technical/etc.] audiences
- recognize ethical and professional responsibilities in engineering situations and make informed judgments, which must consider the impact of engineering solutions in global, economic, environmental, and societal contexts
- function effectively on a team whose members together provide leadership, create a collaborative and inclusive environment, establish goals, plan tasks, and meet objectives
- develop and conduct appropriate experimentation, analyze and interpret data, and use engineering judgment to draw conclusions
- acquire and apply new knowledge as needed, using appropriate learning strategies

Tulsa Curriculum and First Year Experience (22 hours)
Core Curriculum and First Year Experience (4 hours)
General Curriculum (18 hours)
- Block I Aesthetic Inquiry and Creative Experience (6 hours)*
- Block II Historical and Social Interpretation (12 hours)*
Students who select the pre-med option must take SOC 1033 and PSY 2253 as Block II electives. PSY 2253 is approved as a Block II elective for chemical engineering pre-med option majors only.
Chemical Engineering Major Requirements (100 - 110 hours)
Physical Sciences (20 hours)
Engineering Sciences (12 hours)
Chemical Engineering (32 hours)
Chemical Engineering Option (22-32 hours)
Students seeking the B.S.Ch.E. degree must complete one of the following degree options:
General Option (22-23 hours)
Pre-med Option (31-32 hours)
Notes:
*Selections are limited to courses that qualify as humanities or social sciences electives as defined by ABET accreditation and the Tulsa curriculum. These courses must demonstrate depth of study in at least one area rather than be simply a series of introductory courses (i.e., two of the courses must have the same departmental designation).
For calculating grade point averages, major courses shall be: ES 3003 , ES 3053 , and ES 3073 , and all chemical engineering courses. A chemical engineering student must earn a grade point average of 2.0 or higher in the major and overall in order to receive a degree in chemical engineering.
For calculating grade point averages, foundation courses in chemical engineering include MATH 2014 , MATH 2024 , CHEM 1013 , CHEM 1023 , and PHYS 2053 . A chemical engineering student must earn a grade point average of 2.5 or higher in foundation courses in order to receive a degree in chemical engineering. A chemical engineering student must complete all foundation courses within three semesters.
