Core Courses (9 hours)
- GLSC 2013 Global Challenges . This course explores how social, cultural, political, economic and historical forces shape population change, resources management, technology use and development, information management, economies, conflict and governance on a global scale. Students will work in interdisciplinary teams to prepare presentations on core topics of the course.
- GLSC 2023 Sustainability and Urban Development . This course explores how social, cultural, political, economic and historical forces shape sustainable practices in the context of urban development. Course takes place in Germany and Hungary.
- GLSC 2863 Special Topics . This course continues to examine the seven challenges introduced in GLSC 2013 with a focus on the intersections of these challenges.
Language Requirement
Global Scholars are required to complete the equivalent of the first four semesters of a modern foreign language. Students may meet this requirement by course completion, placement exams, or demonstration of fluency in a second language.
Study Abroad
Global Scholars are required to complete a semester of abroad. Traditional study abroad, internships or research programs will fulfill this requirement.
E-portfolio
Global Scholars are required to maintain an e-portfolio throughout their time in the program. The e-portfolio must include samples of assignments from Global Scholars courses, blogs while abroad, self-assessment, résumés and a description of the capstone project.
Globally-focused Major Course
Global Scholars are required to complete a globally-focused course with their major.
Capstone Project
In the senior year, Global Scholars are required to complete a capstone project. The project may be an extension of a senior project, research or service learning started during the semester abroad, or a new project related to the global-challenges framework of the program.
