For more information about degree offerings by the faculty of history, visit the Department of History webpage.

The history major challenges the intellect, inspires the imagination, and stimulates analytical thinking. Historical knowledge provides a valuable background for students considering careers in law, journalism, library and museum work, education, business, and local, state, national, and international public service. Students of history contribute anywhere that a knowledge of domestic and foreign affairs is required, and, of course, to the profession of historical research and teaching.

Undergraduate Academic Programs

The faculty of history offer courses leading to the Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) degree in history .

Teacher Education Program

Students seeking secondary teacher certification in social studies must declare education as a second major. This double major leads to teacher certification in Oklahoma (and preparation for certification in other states). In order to qualify, students must complete all the tasks listed on the Department of Education page of this Bulletin, including acceptance into the Teacher Education Program and to the Student Teaching Semester.

In addition, social studies education majors must include the following courses as part of their history major:

Social studies education majors are assigned two faculty mentors, one in the Department of History and one in the Department of Education .
