LAW - 5153 Expert Evidence

(3 hours)

Expert Evidence covers specific topics of scientific and expert evidence in more depth than the basic Evidence course. Topics may include an introduction to the scientific method, basic principles of statistics and economics for lawyers, DNA, fingerprinting and other forensic sciences, issues in experimental psychology and behavioral science, accident and crime reconstruction and reenactments, technology in the courtroom, qualifying, deposing and examining experts, and ethical issues. This is an advanced evidence course dealing with expert testimony, whether in the criminal context (a la CSI) or the civil tort context (environmental, pharmaceutical, product liability, etc.). There will not be a final exam. Instead grades will be based on participation, assignments and short, take home exams. The course will feature a lot of guest lecturers, and you will have opportunities to participate in OSU forensics mock trial. Evidence is a mandatory prerequisite.

Prerequisite(s): LAW 5304
