ARTH 4043 Art and Architecture across the Mediterranean c. 1000-1600 (3 hours) Examines the Mediterranean basin as arena of intercultural contact. Explores locations of artistic interaction, such as the Crusader States, the Iberian Peninsula, Norman Sicily, and Constantinople/Istanbul. Themes include art and architecture in interfaith communities, the appropriation of rival aesthetics, and the depiction of the cultural Other. Prerequisites: ARTH 2203 and ARTH 2223 .
