Through a collaborative program with the College of Law and the College of Arts and Sciences, selected students can complete their undergraduate degree and a JD in six (6) years. At the end of their second semester in law school and the completion of 124 applicable semester hours, students in the program will be awarded a Bachelor of Arts (BA) or Bachelor of Science (BS) degree.
Students in the College of Arts & Sciences are eligible to apply for admission to the accelerated law program in their third year of undergraduate study at The University of Tulsa. Admission is highly selective.
How do I apply for admission to the Accelerated Law Program?
- Schedule an appointment with College of Law’s Office of Admissions during the first four or five semesters of college to obtain information about the accelerated law program and receive counseling on application requirements for the program.
- Submit an Application for Admission to the College of Law (by April 1st but no earlier than January 1st of the junior year).
- Submit at least two letters of recommendation, a letter of recommendation from the applicants departmental chair, and a personal statement. The personal statement should include why you feel you are a good candidate for the accelerated law program. The College of Law application is available at LSAC.org. Applicants to the College of Law are required to apply via the LSAC website. Application fee waivers that enable you to apply for free via the LSAC website are available at https://secureweb.utulsa.edu/law/application/).
- Take the Law School Admissions Test (LSAT) no later than February of the junior year.
- Register with the LSAC Credential Assembly Service (CAS) by April 1st but no earlier than January 1st of the junior year in college. Please note, all candidates must arrange for a copy of their TU undergraduate transcript to be sent to LSAC so that it may be incorporated into the CAS report.
What is required for admission to the Accelerated Law Program?
- A 3.0 undergraduate cumulative grade point average at the time of review
- Comportment in a manner consistent with the expectations of the legal profession
- Achievement of an LSAT score which is equal to, or greater than, the law school’s 25th percentile LSAT score of the most recent entering class in the College of Law
- Thorough completion of application forms and submission of all supporting documentation in a timely manner
- Mandatory completion of an interview with the College of Law within one month of application
What additional factors will determine admission to the Accelerated Law Program?
An applicant should demonstrate the potential to be a successful law student through their level of achievement in a rigorous curriculum. Applicants should have clear goals and be motivated to progress at an accelerated pace.
When will I know if I am accepted?
Applicants to the Accelerated Law Program will be notified regarding an admission decision approximately 30 days of law school’s receipt of a completed application file.
If accepted, what conditions will be placed on me before I can enroll in the College of Law?
- The accepted candidate must have a cumulative undergraduate GPA of 3.0 at the conclusion of undergraduate coursework and prior to matriculation in the College of Law.
- The accepted candidate must maintain comportment in a manner consistent with the expectations of the legal profession and remain in good standing with the University of Tulsa.
- At the conclusion of the spring semester of the junior year of college, the accepted candidate must arrange for one copy of your current transcript reflecting cumulative GPA to be sent to the Law School Admissions Council so that it may appear in the completed version of the CAS report. Additionally, the candidate must arrange for a second “official” and final copy of their undergraduate transcript reflecting degree conferred to be sent to the College of Law’s registrar office.
- During the spring semester of the junior year, admitted candidates will be required to attend a workshop at the College of Law designed to help them prepare for legal study and acclimate to the law school environment.
NOTE: Failure to comply with any of the above requirements and conditions will result in the revocation of admission to the accelerated law program.
