Speech-language Pathology, B.S.S.P.


Learning Outcomes

Students who complete the undergraduate program in speech-language pathology will:

1. Demonstrate knowledge of the processes of typical development of hearing, speech, and receptive/expressive language across the lifespan. 

2. Demonstrate knowledge of communication and swallowing disorders, and evidenced-based practices, in assessment and intervention for individuals with communication and swallowing disorders. 

3. Demonstrate knowledge of ethics and person-centered care related to assessment and intervention for individuals with communication and swallowing disorders.

Speech-language Pathology Major Requirements


Major Electives or Minor Program


Students may complete a minor program of at least 12 hours or complete 12 hours from the following list of select courses:

General Electives (6 hours)


Total: 120 hours


Speech-language Pathology, B.S.S.P., Additional Requirements


All CDSP and CDAU courses must be completed with a grade of C or higher. Courses may be repeated, if necessary, to meet this requirement.

Students with a GPA lower than 3.0 in major specific courses may have difficulty with admittance to graduate school programs. If academic grades in the major are consistently below 3.0, it will be recommended that the student select a different program for their major.

Students with a GPA lower than 3.0 in speech-language pathology courses will enroll in clinical practicum only if recommended by faculty. Failure to pass the practicum course will result in non-recommendation for graduate study in speech-language pathology.
