Learning Outcomes
By the end of the BS Geosciences program, students will be able to:
1. Make and record observations, and interpret and analyze data from diverse sources to explain Earth processes.
2. Describe and justify the use of geological and geophysical techniques to address questions about the Earth.
3. Communicate geoscientific principles, observations, and interpretations to relevant audiences.
4. Evaluate their geoscience skills and dispositions for life and career success.

Technical Electives (18 hours)
Students may choose one of two degree options, which will define the required technical electives. Students are encouraged to work with their advisor to craft a plan to help them meet their personal and professional goals.
Geology Option
Beyond the Geosciences Core requirements, students who pursue the geology option must complete:
At least 9 hours of coursework in Geology, Geography, or Geophysics at the 3000-level or above, AND 9 credit hours in Mathematics, Chemistry, Biology, Physics, Energy Management, Statistics, Engineering, or Computer Science.
Geophysics Option
Beyond the Geosciences Core requirements, students who pursue the Geophysics option must complete:
9 credit-hours of upper-division Geophysics coursework, AND 9 credit hours in Physics, Computer Science, Mathematics, or Engineering.
General Electives (16 hours)
Notes:
In order to receive a degree in geosciences, students must complete all geology, geography and physics courses with a grade of C or higher and must earn an overall G.P.A. of at least 2.0.
Foundation courses in geosciences are MATH 2014 , CHEM 1013 , CHEM 1011 , GEOL 1014 , andPHYS 2053 . In order to receive a degree in geosciences, students must complete all foundation courses with a G.P.A. of at least 2.5. Geosciences students must complete all foundation courses within three semesters.
GEOL 4016 must be taken at another university.
