Learning Outcomes

Students who complete the undergraduate program education will be able to:

  • Demonstrate mastery of the central concepts and tools of inquiry of their discipline(s).
  • Plan research-based instruction that advances the learning of each student.
  • Utilize research-based pedagogy that advances the learning of each student.
  • Design curriculum based on state and national standards.
  • Demonstrate mastery of the assessment cycle as a component of teaching.
  • Demonstrate understanding of the processes of human development and learning.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to ongoing professional development. 
  • Promote the success of each student based on a demonstrated understanding of the socio-cultural, historical, and institutional contexts of education.

Tulsa Curriculum and First Year Experience (47 - 49 hours)


Core Curriculum and First Year Experience (22 - 24 hours)


General Curriculum (25 hours)


  • Block I Aesthetic Inquiry and Creative Experience (6 hours)
  • Block II Historical and Social Interpretation (12 hours)
  • Block III Scientific Investigation (7 hours including one lab)

Area of Specialization/Primary Major (40 hours)


The subject area of specialization requires 40 semester hours. Major course requirements are specified on relevant academic unit pages:

*Students must earn a minimum of 120 credit hours, but may require more based on a student’s area of specialization/primary major, foreign language proficiency, and other factors.  The final amount of hours required for each student’s chosen degree pathway will be defined in consultation with the assigned faculty mentor and student success coach.
