Learning Outcomes

For a Bachelor of Science or Arts in Physics, students will:

   Identify, formulate, and solve complex problems in the fundamental and applied sciences;

   Apply scientific knowledge to produce solutions that meet specified needs with consideration of public health, safety, and welfare, as well as global, cultural, social, environmental, and economic factors;

   Communicate effectively with a range of audiences both technical and non-technical;

   Recognize ethical responsibilities in scientific situations and make informed and defensible judgments to advance scientific knowledge;

   Function effectively on a team;

   Conduct scientific research; and

   Acquire and apply new knowledge as needed, using appropriate learning strategies.

Tulsa Curriculum and First Year Experience (25 hours)


General Curriculum (18 hours)


  • Block I, Aesthetic Inquiry and Creative Experience (6 hours)
  • Block II, Historical and Social Interpretation (12 hours)

Physics Major Requirements (20 hours)


General Electives (24 hours)


Selected with the approval of the student’s advisor

Total: 120 hours


Physics and engineering physics majors must earn a grade point average of 2.0 or higher in their major courses and overall to graduate.
