Learning Outcomes
Students who complete the undergraduate program in history will:

Historical Comprehension
a. Analyze the literal and contextual significance of a historical passage.
b. Identify the central questions in historical narratives.
c. Articulate historical perspectives.
- Historical Analysis and Interpretation
a. Compare and contrast opposed and/or multiple sets of ideas, interpretations, values, personalities, behaviors and/or institutions.
b. Assess competing historical narratives.
c. Hypothesize the impacts and significance of past events.
- Historical Research Capabilities
a. Articulate historical questions.
b. Acquire and evaluate historical data.
c. Compose a sound historical interpretation and argument.

Tulsa Curriculum and First Year Experience (51-53 hours)
Core Curriculum and First Year Experience (26-28 hours)
General Curriculum (25 hours)
- Block I Aesthetic Inquiry and Creative Experience (6 hours)
- Block II Historical and Social Interpretation (12 hours)
- Block III Scientific Investigation (7 hours including one lab)
Major Requirements (33 hours)
A minimum of 33 credit hours in history courses, excluding history courses taken to meet general curriculum requirements, is required for the Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) in history. No more than 39 credit hours may be credited toward that degree.
Lower Division Requirements (9 hours)
Three courses at the 2000 level. Of these three courses, three different fields must be represented. Majors are to select three fields from among the following:
- Ancient (Mediterranean, East Asian, the Americas)
- Modern Global and Comparative (Asia, the Atlantic World)
- U.S. (U.S., Native America, U.S. and the World)
- Europe and Mediterranean (Medieval and Modern)
Upper Division Requirements (24 hours)
- HIST 3903 History Colloquium (This course must be taken soon after declaring the history major.)
- Seven courses at the 3000- and 4000-level. Of these seven courses, at least three different fields must be represented. Majors are to select three fields from the list above.
