Learning Outcomes

  1. Demonstrate knowledge of normal processes in the development of speech and language comprehension and production that approaches the standard of achievement outlined by ASHA, by recognizing and recalling facts and understanding what the facts mean.
  2. Demonstrate knowledge of communication and swallowing disorders that approaches the standard of achievement outlined by ASHA, by recognizing and recalling facts and understanding and applying the facts, concepts, and ideas as related to persons with communication and swallowing disorders.
  3. Demonstrate knowledge of clinical methods, clinical skills and ethics related to intervention with clients who are diagnosed with communication and swallowing disorders that approaches the standard of achievement outlined by ASHA, by recognizing and recalling facts and understanding and applying the facts, concepts, and ideas as related to persons with communication and swallowing disorders.

Tulsa Curriculum and First Year Experience (38-39 hours)


General Curriculum (25-26 hours)


  • Block I Aesthetic Inquiry and Creative Experience (6 hours)
  • Block II Social and Historical Interpretation (12 hours)
  • Block III Scientific Investigation (7-8 hours)

Speech-language Pathology Major Requirements (64 hours)


Minor (12 hours)


General Electives (5-6 hours)


Total: 120 hours


Speech-language Pathology, B.S.S.P., Additional Requirements


All CDSP and CDAU courses must be completed with a grade of C or higher.

Speech-language pathology majors must earn a grade of at least C in all program courses taken. Courses may be repeated, if necessary, to meet this requirement.

If academic grades in the major are consistently below B, it will be recommended that the student select a different academic program for their major.

Students with a grade point average lower than 3.0 in speech-language pathology courses will enroll in clinical practicum only if recommended by faculty.

Failure to pass the practicum course will result in non-recommendation for graduate study in speech-language pathology study.
