Chemical Engineering, M.E. (Accelerated Master’s)

Return to the Russell School of Chemical Engineering 

The accelerated master’s degree program allows highly motivated students to begin earning hours towards a Master of Engineering (M.E.)  in chemical engineering while completing a Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering (B.S.Ch.E.) degree. Students complete the regular coursework for the bachelor’s degree with the exception that 5000-level courses are taken for the Advanced Science Elective and the Advanced Engineering Elective. Students may apply for the program when they have completed between 60 and 96 hours toward the bachelor’s degree, including CHE 3084 Mass Transfer and its prerequisites, with a GPA of at least 3.5.  When combined with up to six hours of additional graduate level coursework while still completing undergraduate degree requirements, students can potentially reduce the total time to degree completion for the master’s portion by up to one year.

Interested students should contact the Graduate Program Advisor for chemical engineering as early as possible and before taking any elective courses. Degree requirements for the accelerated Master of Engineering degree are the same as for the usual Master of Engineering  degree, with the two 5000-level courses taken as undergraduate electives double counting toward the master’s degree as well as the bachelor’s degree. Students may pass the master’s comprehensive exam during the final semester of the accelerated master’s program instead of completing the CHE 7911-3 Master’s Project  (3 hours).

Graduate Seminar Requirement


All graduate chemical engineering students must also enroll in ES 7010  each semester of full-time enrollment, in addition to any other courses chosen with the graduate program advisor.
