Select students who have a strong interest in careers in the fields of energy, environmental and natural resources law may qualify for a joint degree program in which a JD and LLM in Energy and Natural Resources Law may be earned in six semesters plus six hours of summer school. To earn the joint degree students must complete 98 hours consisting of the following.
Nine hours of SERL courses will count toward fulfilling both the JD and LLM requirements.
Program Learning Outcomes
- Graduates who earn the dual degree will demonstrate knowledge in the area of energy and natural resources law necessary for effective and responsible participation in the legal profession and energy industry by:
- Understanding various sources of law and legal authority in the areas of energy, natural resources, and environmental law, the relative priority of these laws, and how the laws interact; and
- Demonstrating ability to identify, describe and apply fundamental rules governing various issues in the energy, natural resources, and environmental law areas.
- Graduates who earn the dual degree will demonstrate the ability to write legal documents to an audience in the field of energy, natural resources, and environmental law that are clear, concise, well-reasoned, organized, professional in tone, appropriate to the audience and circumstances, and, if appropriate, contain proper citation to authority.
