The program requires successful completion of a minimum of 24 credit hours with a minimum GPA of 2.5 on a 4-point scale. Students may enroll full- or part-time and must complete the program within five years.
Program Learning Outcomes
- Graduates who earn the LL.M. in American Indian and Indigenous Law will demonstrate knowledge of the basic substantive principles of federal Indian law and at least one advanced American Indian or Indigenous Law topic by:
- Understanding various sources of tribal, federal and international law, the relative priority of these laws, and how the laws interact;
- Demonstrating ability to identify, describe, and apply fundamental rules governing various issues affecting Indian tribes and individuals.
- Graduates who earn the LL.M. in American Indian and Indigenous Law will demonstrate ability to write a scholarly thesis by:
- Identifying a research topic involving a discrete legal issue in American Indian law;
- Conducting thorough research of that topic using appropriate sources;
- Analyzing and synthesizing the results;
- Writing a thorough, systematic, and authoritative document that explains and analyzes the results of the research.

Electives must be chosen from the approved list below and may include up to nine additional hours of LAW 5943 LLM Thesis .
Note:
Courses not on the approved list may be substituted only with the written consent of the program advisor and another member of the NALC faculty.
