The certificate program in classical studies is designed for the traditional and non-traditional student who wants to acquire a solid foundation in the Greco-Roman world and its legacy. Students must either have a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university or be in the process of completing a bachelor’s degree at The University of Tulsa.

Requirements (21 hours)
Students must complete 21 hours of approved course work, with a minimum of 12 hours at the 3000-level or above. Students must choose one of the following two tracks:
Track I: Civilization and Languages
Students must complete 21 hours of approved coursework (or 18 hours for students who complete the equivalent of 6 hours of Greek or 6 hours of Latin). Students must take at least one course from Area I: Classical Civilization and Area II: Classical Languages; the remaining courses may be elected in any combination. Students who have taken Greek or Latin to fulfill the college language requirement will not be required to take a course from Area II; however, those language credits will not count toward the certificate.
Track II: Civilization
Students must complete 21 hours of approved coursework from distribution area I. Students must take at least one course from each of two separate disciplines; the remaining courses may be elected in any combination.
Area I: Classical Civilization
Area II: Classical Languages
