Tandy School of Computer Science

The Tandy School of Computer Science offers degree programs in computer science and computer simulation and gaming. The School also provides computer science courses to serve the needs of all students at the University.

Mission

The mission of the Tandy School of Computer Science is:

  • To provide the environment and educational experiences that will enable our students to achieve their educational goals and to be successful in the workplace and/or graduate school;
  • To provide our students with the desire and the ability for long-term learning that will be necessary in the changing field of computer science;
  • To provide our students with a basis for ethical behavior, conduct, and responsibility for computer science professionals;
  • To conduct scholarly research in computer science and related fields; and
  • To provide professional service to the University and regional community.

Accreditation

The B.S. degree program in computer science is accredited by the Computing Accreditation Commission of ABET, http://www.abet.org. Graduates of these programs should be well-prepared to pursue graduate study or industrial and business careers.

Undergraduate Academic Programs

The faculty of computer science offer courses leading to the Bachelor of Science in Computer Science (B.S.C.S.)  and Bachelor of Science in Computer Simulation and Gaming (B.S.C.S.G.) degrees. There are two options within the computer simulation and gaming program: design and development.

The Bachelor of Science in Computer Science (B.S.C.S.)  degree offers students a strong foundation in computer science and mathematics and emphasizes supporting study in the physical sciences. The Bachelor of Science in Computer Simulation and Gaming (B.S.C.S.G.)  offers students a strong foundation in computer science and foundational courses in simulation and gaming together with supporting subjects in mathematics and physical sciences.

Program Goals

The program educational objectives of the Tandy School of Computer Science are:

  • To meet the expectations of employers of computer scientists, and
  • To enable graduates to pursue professional development, which might include advanced studies, if desired.
