The School of Cyber Studies offers an undergraduate minor in Cyber Security, a Bachelor of Science in Cyber Security (B.S.Cy.S.) degree, a Master of Science (M.S.) in cyber security degree, and a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in cyber studies degree. TU’s cyber program is certified by the NSA and U.S. Department of Homeland Security as a Center of Academic Excellence in Information Assurance Education, Research, and Cyber Operations.
What is cyber studies? The word cyber has its origins in the word cybernetics, a term used to describe the study of control systems and communications between humans and machines. We now use the word cyber as an adjective associated with activities that involve computers and computer networks. In that sense, cyber studies refers to the broader study of the Internet and its impact on society in many different fields: health, science, engineering, business, law, public policy, technology, privacy, computer security, cyber-physical systems and many others.
Mission
The mission of the School of Cyber Studies is:
- To provide the environment and educational experiences that will enable our students to achieve their educational goals, and to be successful in the workplace.
- To provide our students with the desire and the ability for long-term learning that will be necessary in the changing field of cyber studies.
- To provide our students with a basis for ethical behavior, conduct, and responsibility for cyber professionals.
- To conduct scholarly research in cyber studies and related fields.
- To provide professional service to the university and regional community.
Graduate Academic Programs
The faculty of cyber studies offers courses leading to the Master of Science (M.S.) in cyber security (thesis option and non-thesis option ) and the Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) degree in cyber studies .
Program Learning Outcomes
Students who complete the master’s program in cyber security will be able to:
- Possess a comprehensive understanding of the foundational concepts of cyber security;
- Obtain and refine the skills necessary to improve an organization’s cybersecurity posture;
- Apply theoretical concepts to the practice of cyber security; and
- Demonstrate professional skills and behavior.
Students who complete the doctoral program in cyber studies will be able to:
- Demonstrate expertise and proficiency in the discipline’s foundational areas including cyber security, networking, data analysis, and a disciplinary specialization relevant to cyber studies;
- Create and advance the body of knowledge in cyber topics by writing and submitting scholarly papers to peer-reviewed conference proceedings and journals; and
- Demonstrate research skills and professional behavior consistent with the scholarly cyber scientific community.
