The program in anthropology is designed to provide students with a strong general background in anthropology preparatory to graduate studies or employment in fields such as qualitative and applied research, archaeology, foreign relations, international business, international law, and social work. The curriculum requires all students, under the supervision of an anthropology faculty member, to complete a research project in some area of the student’s interest. Individual counseling is provided for all students.

Lower division work in anthropology emphasizes the four major divisions of the discipline: physical anthropology, archaeology, cultural anthropology, and linguistics. Upper division courses emphasize archaeology and cultural anthropology, with supporting courses in physical anthropology and linguistics offered at the junior level.
