Mission

The mission of the Tandy School of Computer Science is:

  • To provide the environment and educational experiences that will enable our students to achieve their educational goals and to be successful in the workplace and/or graduate school;
  • To provide our students with the desire and the ability for long-term learning that will be necessary in the changing field of computer science;
  • To provide our students with a basis for ethical behavior, conduct, and responsibility for computer science professionals;
  • To conduct scholarly research in computer science and related fields; and
  • To provide professional service to the University and regional community.

Accreditation

The B.S. degree program in computer science is accredited by the Computing Accreditation Commission of ABET, http://www.abet.org. Graduates of these programs should be well-prepared to pursue graduate study or industrial and business careers.

Undergraduate Academic Programs

The faculty of computer science offer courses leading to the Bachelor of Science in Computer Science (B.S.C.S.)   and Bachelor of Science in Computer Simulation and Gaming (B.S.C.S.G.) degrees. There are two options within the computer simulation and gaming program, the design option  and the development option  .

The Bachelor of Science in Computer Science (B.S.C.S.)  degree offers students a strong foundation in computer sciences and mathematics and emphasizes supporting study in the physical sciences. The Bachelor of Science in Computer Simulation and Gaming (B.S.C.S.G.)  offers students a strong foundation in computer sciences and foundational courses in simulation and gaming together with supporting subjects in mathematics and physical sciences.

Program Goals

The program educational objectives of the Tandy School of Computer Science are:

  • To meet the expectations of employers of computer scientists, and
  • To enable graduates to pursue professional development, which might include advanced studies, if desired.

Learning Outcomes

Students earning a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science will be able to:

1. Analyze a complex computing problem and to apply principles of computing and other relevant disciplines to identify solutions.

2. Design, implement, and evaluate a computing-based solution to meet a given set of computing requirements in the context of the program’s discipline.

3. Communicate effectively in a variety of professional contexts.
