LAW - 5972-TP Seminar: Commercial Speech(2 hours)
Course will cover the commercial speech doctrine and the law surrounding corporate speech and the evolving legal treatment of advertising, marketing and promotional communications. In 1976, the commercial speech doctrine represented a limited expansion of First Amendment protection to a particular class of expression - commercial expression. Since then the lines between commercial and non-commercial expression have become increasingly blurred. We will review key cases as well as literature from a number of related fields, including marketing, advertising, psychology, and other areas impacted. Students will produce a original research paper related to the topics discussed.
