LAW - 5293 Protection of Minority and Indigenous Cultures(3 hours)
Although the United States possesses a dominant, national culture, it also contains discrete minority and indigenous groups which have their own well-developed cultures. The value systems of the dominant and minority cultures will inevitably clash over some issue or another. The purpose of this course is to explore what role law should play in resolving these disputes. In other words, to what extent is the dominant culture obligated to respect and protect the minority cultures that exist within the same borders?
