PHYS 2083 Foundations of Modern Physics

(3 hours)

A first course in 20th and 21st century physics. Special Relativity: Lorentz transformation, relativistic kinematics and dynamics. Quantum Physics: particle like aspects of electromagnetic radiation, wave like aspects of particles, Schrödinger’s equation, wave mechanics, the hydrogen atom, multielectron atoms, Pauli exclusion principle. Prerequisite: PHYS 2063 . Corequisite: MATH 2073
