LAWU 3263 Legal History and the Rise of Modern Originalism

This course explores historical constitutional disputes from the Founding to Reconstruction and their present legal relevancy. This course will cover originalist methods and big historical questions such as:  What is a constitution? How does ours change? Was the Founders’ Constitution pro- or anti-slavery? Can its “original meaning” be recovered?
