PHYS 2053 General Physics I (3 hours) A first course in Physics: Newtonian Mechanics. Statics and dynamics of point particles and rigid objects. Topics include vector algebra, kinematics, projectile and circular motion, dynamics, conservation laws, collisions, linear mechanical oscillations and simple harmonic motion, mechanical waves and sound, interference, elasticity. Prerequisite: MATH 2014 . For students with previous calculus experience, MATH 2014 can be taken as a corequisite with permission of the department chair. - Must be taken either prior to or at the same time as this course.
