PE 6623 Intermittent Subsurface Storage

(3 hours)
Fundamentals, lifecycle analysis, and overview of emerging technologies to utilize natural rock formations for the intermittent storage of energy in its chemical and mechanical forms. Mechanical energy applications including gaseous phase potential energy for power and the nexus with renewable energy sources on the grid. Chemical energy applications including hydrogen-derived fuels. Overview of geohazard risk and mitigation strategies. Prerequisite: PE 3023.
