(3 hours) HCDG

Development of cinema from its origins in the late 1890s to the present. Emphasis is on technological innovations; film styles and genres; national and international influences; the star and studio systems; roles of writers, producers, directors; and the conjunction of aesthetic and commercial interests in the evolution of film.
