EDUC 3143 Adolescent Literacy and Literature 3 hours Speaking, listening, reading, and writing are meaning-making activities and develop significantly during adolescence. The job of an English Language Arts teacher is to build on this growing understanding of literacy skills and literature. This course covers the development of oral and written language (including second language acquisition) from its beginnings through adolescence; basic approaches to ELA pedagogy based on theory and research in language development; and use of adolescent literature.
