SOC 3703 Sociology of Health, Illness, and Medicine
(3 hours)
The distribution of illness, focusing on race, class, and gender; illness experience; social-historical development of the medical system in the United States; changing roles of health care providers; interactions between patients and health care providers; cross-cultural comparisons of health care systems; the political economy of health care. Prerequisite: an introductory course in one of the social sciences or permission of instructor.
