EMGT 4013 Fundamentals of Energy Commodity Trading


(3 hours)
Provides an understanding of the logistics and value chain associated with crude oil, natural gas, gasoline, heating oil, and natural gas liquids (NGLs). Covers the regulatory background of the industry, physical and financial trading and hedging (NYMEX contracts, swaps, spreads, and options), and elementary technical analysis. Students will experience “hands-on” trading using a “real-time” energy commodity trading simulator. Additional topics may include risk control, power trading, and weather derivatives. Prerequisite: FIN 3003  with a grade of C or higher. Corequisite: FIN 3023 .
